Special techniques for spinal pain: Paraspinal muscle treatment features for back and neck pain
The Fenix Rehab System's special technique for chronic paraspinal muscle pain and stiffness of the back and neck.
The paraspinal muscles of the spinal column are found on each side of the
bony bumps down the middle of your back. Never apply pressure to those
bony processes with the Fenix. However, the muscles on each side of these
bony bumps (such as the Multifidus, Longissimus and Rotatore mm) can be a major cause of chronic back and neck pain. The Fenix
has special features designed to specifically treat these problematic muscles.
- At the end of the Fenix opposite the
handle are a series of angled paired holes
that form a circle specifically designed to
treat chronic spinal muscle pain. The top
two paired holes closest to each other
are specifically angled outward at 65° to
laterally stretch the muscle next to the
spine (see picture). The third pair of
holes at the widest part of the circle are
angled inward at 65° (see picture).
These holes are specifically designed to
therapeutically pressure massage the
deep muscles close to the spine that can cause deep aching pain around the
spine. Use 1/2" or 2" digits only.
- After the circle, moving towards the handle, are a series of 16 paired holes
that form a V. The first two 90° paired holes closest together at the base of the
V are specifically spaced to treat the painful tight muscles in your neck that can
cause headaches and neck pain. The next four angled paired holes are used for
spinal traction in low-back and mid-back (see Spinal Traction and Decompression page). You can use two of these
paired holes to do a suboccipital lift technique for headaches (see Pictorial Treatment Guide.)
- The next paired holes in the series are specifically spaced to treat the muscles
next to the spine in the mid and low back, as well as accommodate larger individuals.
The series of paired holes then become wide enough to simultaneously treat
muscles near the shoulder blades (rhomboids, mid trapezius), and across the low
back (quadratus lumborum) and buttocks (glutens maximus), major muscles.in
chronic low back pain (see Pictorial Treatment Guide). The paired 3/4"
holes are used to treat muscles next to the spine in mid back and low back.
- Using Lubrication: In the above described techniques you can use
PROSSAGE™ Heat to perform a short 1" to 2" stroking technique throught
the muscles that surrounds the painful spinal area. GO SLOW and EASY.
PROSSAGE™ Heat is an ideal therapeutic product which warms the tissues and
allows for a smooth glide of the digits through the involved tissues. Just place a
few drops on the tip of the digit or on your skin over the treated area.
