XVI. Seven Step Nutritional Approach to Myofascial Pain and Fibromyalgia
60. Dr. Fors, you have laid-out for us a very comprehensive program for dealing with chronic myofascial pain disorders and Fibromyalgia, I was wondering if you could give us a simple review of your program?
Let me explain my Seven Step approach:
First and foremost start out by self-treating all your active and latent myofascial trigger points with a Fenix Rehab system. You must get a handle on these pain generating "muscle knots." Having a convenient way to apply a consistent self-care program is vital to retrain your muscle over time. Make sure you are searching out and removing all active and hidden latent trigger points. |
Second, you need to start improving your diet. Donaldson in a 2001 research studies found in seven months two-thirds of fibromyalgia patients got significant results by eating a primarily vegetarian diet, rich in fruits, supplemented with multivitamin and mineral supplement, along with six grams of EPA-DHA Omega-3 fatty acids.
Third, do the "oil change." Remove trans-fatty acids and saturated fats from your diet, they promote inflammation. Then add three to six grams of high quality EPA-DHA Omega-3 fatty acids as in Biospec Super Omega-3. EPA-DHA promotes anti-inflammatory prostaglandins and add a great deal to any wellness program. |
Fourth, add some form of nutraceutical to help with your pain and inflammation. You can start out with the inexpensive but highly effective herbal extracts of Ginger and Tumeric. You could use a quality guaranteed potency and purity product like Biospec Infam-Rx. |
| For a stronger, but more expensive nutraceutical, you can take the powerful Kaprex from Metagenics. Studies show extremely good results in lowering inflammatory prostaglandin PgE2. | ![]() Kaprex |

Fifth, you can help your muscles out by supplementary Magnesium Malate. Magnesium Malate will help in energy production and in relaxing taut bands in muscles. Studies have found reduced muscles tenderness in 48 hours with Magnesium Malate. Usually studies use 300 mg Magnesium with 1,200mg of Malate which is sometimes raised to 600mg magnesium and 2,400mg Malate in severe cases of muscle tenderness. An excellent product is Biospec Fibro-Ease with guaranteed potency and purity. Generally start out at two tablets two times daily. |
Sixth step is to remove "bad" bacteria or yeast from your gastrointestinal tract that may be releasing toxins into your system, this is known as dysbiosis. If you have the symptoms of dysbiosis: bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, bowel cramping, abdominal discomfort headaches, fatigue, and insomnia, see a doctor and get it evaluated. To remove the "bad bugs" in your gut you can use a good berberine nutraceutical with guaranteed potency and purity, such as Dysbi-Ease from Biospec Nutritionals. Start out at two tablets twice times daily. Then reintroduce good beneficial bacteria to your gastrointestinal tract using a quality product such as Biospec Nutritionals Probiotic 5. Usually one capsule one to two times daily is adequate. For intestinal discomfort try Metagenics Intesol.

Seventh step is to enhance your detoxification pathways and protect your mitochondrial function. Luckily the same nutraceuticals can be utilized for both wellness goals. Start out by adding a nutraceutical that has Silymarin and Catechins in it, such as Biospec Mito-Detox. I have found that the dosage that works best is around two capsules three times daily for good detoxification. Generally detoxification can be assisted in a three to six week program.
You can help your cellular energy production by utelizing Biospec Mito-Detox. The extra N-acetylcysteine in Mito-Detox may have a strong smell but will also help with enhancing detoxification besides assisting in protecting mitochondria function. Two tablets twice daily of Mito-Detox is usually sufficient. |

The third nutraceutical you can add in to help with enhancing cellular energy production is CoQ10. In various studies CoQ10 has been found to be helpful in fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue cases. This is because it is so vital for energy production in the mitochondria of muscle cells. The only draw back with this nutraceutical is that quality CoQ10 is expensive. But if you have fibromyalgia and fatigue it's worth the investment in yourself. Effective dosages are usually around 60 to 120mg daily. Biospec make a very high quality absorbable CoQ10. It's called Q-Sorb 100 and dosage starts out at one capsule one time daily. In tough cases you can double the dose to one capsule two times daily. |

There is no simple answer to the complex syndromes of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. Hopefully this information will be helpful to those who are suffering with these difficult syndromes. Never give up hope, and once you start to begin to feel better start some aerobic conditioning this is vital for real recovery.
